Juror General Exhibition Comments:

I was delighted to be invited to jury this show focusing on abstract and impressionist styles by members of the Toledo Artists' Club. I found a very lively selection of works that embraced a wide variety of artistic expression. My awards criteria included craftsmanship, presentation, technical skills, creativity and overall visual presence. In the process of selecting the award-winning pieces, I looked for a precise and spirited vision that succeeded on several levels: a conceptual realization through technical skills and an idea and its execution coming together in a special way to make a work exceptional. I hope that the works I selected for awards invite engagement and further exploration. My only caveat is that in a few circumstances, the presentation – matting, framing, etc. – did not complement or even detracted from the concept of the artwork. Overall, it is an enjoyable show that offers viewers a satisfying experience. I offer my congratulations to all of the artists who were able to transform their ideas and materials into engaging works of art. Thank you for this opportunity.
