BEST IN SHOW

Michael Hill

Shadows in the 577 Courtyard

I was struck by the impeccable technique and detail in this piece, which was expertly implemented. Knowing immediately the location of the painting, I was intrigued with the use of a limited color palette, which takes great skill to use successfully as this work does.

Toledo Botanical Garden Wall

This lovely watercolor was beautifully executed and presented. The atmospheric feeling of a warm sunny day in the garden gave a peaceful sensation to the viewer.

Everything about this painting is visually exciting. The composition, texture, and application of the paint, as well as the mood created by the limited color palette.

Juror Comments

I was pleased to see the way artists captured the unique essence of Northwest Ohio in this exhibit. Farmlands, cityscapes, historical references, and water are the quintessential elements of the area. There were so many lovely works that it was difficult to choose ribbon recipients.
