There’s still room for artists!

We still have tables available if you’d like to join us and sell your artwork! It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with visitors, share your work, and put your art into the hands of shoppers looking for unique gifts this holiday season.

Members are also welcome to bring in artwork, cards, or prints to sell! If you’re interested, please email Linda at info@toledoartistclub.com with the subject line HERALDING ART.

We also need volunteers! Help is needed with baked goods, gift baskets and other donations for the silent auction, door greeting, floating, sales assistance, decorating, setup, and cleanup.

Please visit the Heralding the Holidays link at the top of our website for more information and to sign up!

A huge thank-you to everyone who has already volunteered and helped make this event possible. We truly appreciate your time, generosity, and support!

New Spring Bulbs Planted around Artist Club

Fred Lang spent several days in Oct. Cleaning and weeding our flower beds. Last year Fred and his wife Judy started our spring bulb garden by planting over 300 daffodils and hyathints and Dutch iris just before the ground froze on a cold cold cold Nov day.

This fall Fred got a jump on fixing the perennial flower beds, amending the soil and planting bulbs in much nicer fall weather. Over 550 bulbs planted this year. Thank you Fred.

Bulbs were purchased by Donlyn Meyers, Fred Lang and Karen Hakel.

Watch for the blooms in March thru April. They will last for decades coming back up every spring.

A beloved member...

Karen Emily Hakel

Aug 8, 1944 — Sep 24, 2026

Karen Emily Hakel died quietly in her sleep on September 24, 2026, at her residence in Toledo, Ohio.

Karen was a well-educated professional who despite her early interest in art, became an accomplished lawyer, returning to artistic pursuits primarily in retirement. A Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Minnesota, she studied law at Harvard, one of only 3 women admitted that year. Upon graduation she began 20 years of private practice in Washington DC, admitted to practice in DC, Maryland, Virginia, and before the U.S. Supreme Court. She next joined the Office of Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education, responsible for cases in Virginia, the Carolinas, and DC.

Upon retirement, Karen moved to Toledo. Here she quickly became a Docent of the Toledo Museum of Art, eventually serving as President of that group. She also joined the National Association of Retired Federal Employees where she served as its Vice President for Legislation. Active the Metro Parks, she participated in many groups of paint artists.

Born on August 8, 1944, she was the first daughter of Milton and Emily Kovar Hakel. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, sister Carol, and brothers Kenneth, Roy, and Lee. She is survived by brother Milton Hakel Jr., sister-in-law Lee, niece Jen Horvath, nephew Lane Hakel, and more nephews, nieces, and cousins.

(At this time) no memorials are planned currently. Take a walk through your favorite Metro Park and remember her.https://www.walkerfuneralhomes.com/obituaries/karen-hakel
