Opportunities for Artists

Entry for the event is not juried; awards will be juried by David Rankin. There will be sizeable cash awards as well as in kind awards from the Art Supply Depo and other area merchants. Artists may set up along Main Street in Sylvania and in Haroun Community Park. For more information, and to register, visit the Redbird website.

The Art Supply Depo sponsors the Sylvania Plein Air event

From Jules Webster:
The first 50 adults to register will receive amazing swag bags from the Depo containing free art materials worth much more than the registration fee. Later registrants will also receive cool swag bags, of lesser value. As of March 28, 10 artists had registered, so there were still 40 amazing swag bags up for grabs. The event is accessible; when you register, you may request having a volunteer help you get your supplies from your car to your painting site.

In addition to the cash awards, we'll also have lots of free art materials as honorable mention awards, including $300 worth of Arches Blocks, Sennelier Half Stick Soft Pastel Sets, Princeton Brush Bundles, etc.

Local businesses will also be providing cash purchase awards. The Depo is offering a $400 purchase award for the best representation of the shop. As businesses register, they will be added to the interactive
map for the event. The map interesting places to paint, purchase award locations, accessible parking, and in case of inclement weather, places you can paint under cover.

Art & About: Jim White Memorial Paint Out

This is the 10th annual plein air event sponsored by AWAAC to be held in downtown Waterville on June 22, 23 and 24. Art and About invites talented, local artists to paint outdoors throughout the historic city. The public is invited to watch the artists paint and interact with them as they work. To register, email Lisa Exner with your name, phone number, all dates you plan to paint (June 22, 23, 24), and if you will be displaying your event paintings in the exhibit.

Richard Parkes Bonington, a great and little known watercolor painter.

"Richard Parkes Bonington (25 October 1802 – 23 September 1828) was an English Romantic landscape painter, who moved to France at the age of 14 and can also be considered as a French artist, and an intermediary bringing aspects of English style to France. Becoming, after his early death, one of the most influential British artists of his time, the facility of his style was inspired by the old masters, yet was entirely modern in its application."
